Social Justice in US Maternal and Child Health

Course Description: With an emphasis on social justice, this course addresses maternal and child health inequities in the United States, as well as the systemic factors contributing to them. Students will examine the influence of the physical, social and cultural environment on the health of women, children, and families in the United States, particularly those from historically marginalized communities. Using an ecological and life-course perspective, this course will provide an overview of historical and current policies and practices that have disproportionately impacted MCH populations in the United States. This course will also underscore the importance of a public health, multisector approach for improving outcomes.
