About

Joined UMBC faculty in 2007. Previously a researcher at NHGRI, Johns Hopkins, IOM, and President's National Bioethics Advisory Commission. Expert in health disparities and social determinants of health; reproductive and genetics ethics; social and ethical issues related to mental health. Has served in multiple leadership positions with national public health and bioethics organizations.

Research Interests

Adverse Childhood Experiences as a social determinant of health, food insufficiency among college students, knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about cannabis use; cannabis health policy; maternal mental health; reproductive health policy; genetics policy; ethics education at the undergraduate level

Teaching Interests

Social Determinants of Health, Health Disparities, public health ethics, social justice, pandemics; multi-media and technology-based teaching
