The research group on Friend Expectations and Supportive Ties in Varying Environments (FESTIVE) investigates cultural and normative expectations of friendships and other supportive relationships, examining the need to broaden conceptual, empirical, cultural, and legal definitions of family. This need is particularly relevant as global demographic shifts have led to a growing number of individuals of all ages who, for various reasons, are not part of traditional nuclear families (e.g., unpartnered, single, childless, or child-free). FESTIVE underscores the vital role of alternative social connections in fostering well-being and support.
